ABOUT SUNOLIVES & OUR STORY
SunOlives is a family-owned olive oil company that produces premium, single-origin extra virgin olive oil from our grove on Turkey's Aegean coast. What started as my father's retirement dream has become our family's passion. We're dedicated to bringing authentic, high-quality olive oil from our family grove directly to your table, packaged in our distinctive turquoise glass bottles.
After decades working in education sector, my father made a bold choice—he traded principals office for olive groves. On a hillside overlooking the Aegean Sea in Turkey, he found the groves and discovered his life's true passion. What began as a retirement dream has blossomed into a family mission: to share the finest extra virgin olive oil with people who appreciate quality, authenticity, and the story behind every bottle.
Our olive oil is produced at our family grove on Turkey's Aegean coast. The Mediterranean climate—with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters—creates ideal conditions for growing olives with exceptional flavor profiles. Every bottle of SunOlives comes from this single location, ensuring consistent quality and complete traceability.
Our distinctive turquoise bottles serve two purposes. First, they're inspired by the beautiful Aegean Sea visible from our grove—a daily reminder of place, heritage, and natural beauty. Second, the turquoise glass protects the oil from light degradation, helping maintain freshness and quality from our grove to your kitchen. It's both beautiful and functional!
Several things set us apart:
- Single-origin: Every bottle comes from one grove, not a blend of unknown sources
- Family-crafted: Made by hand with care, not mass-produced
- Same-day processing: Cold-pressed within hours of harvest
- Distinctive packaging: Turquoise bottles in luxury gift boxes
- Authentic story: A genuine retirement dream, not corporate marketing Complete transparency: We know every tree in our grove

"Extra virgin" is the highest grade of olive oil. To earn this designation, the oil must:
- Be extracted using mechanical methods only (no chemicals)
- Have acidity below 0.8% (ours is typically below 0.5%)
- Pass sensory evaluation by trained tasters
- Be made from fresh olives (not damaged or fermented)
- Never be refined or processed
Think of it like the difference between fresh-squeezed orange juice and concentrate.
Extra virgin is the fresh-squeezed version—pure, unprocessed, and full of natural flavor.
Our extra virgin olive oil has a:
- Intensity: Medium
- Character: Balanced and fruity
- Aroma: Fresh-cut grass, green tomato, hint of artichoke
- Color: Golden-green, vibrant
- Taste: Buttery smooth with pleasant bitterness
- Finish: Mild peppery kick (a sign of quality!)
- Texture: Silky, coating
The slight peppery sensation at the back of your throat is actually a good thing—it indicates fresh polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants!
While we're not currently certified organic, we practice sustainable, traditional farming methods in our grove. We:
- Use minimal intervention techniques
- Avoid harsh chemicals
- Practice soil conservation
- Hand-tend our trees
- Respect the land and local ecosystem
We're committed to quality and sustainability, even if we don't carry the official organic certification at this time.
QUALITY & SOURCING
Single-origin means every drop of oil in your bottle comes from one specific grove—ours. We don't blend oils from multiple sources or unknown locations. This approach ensures:
- Consistent quality: Same terroir, same methods, same care
- Complete traceability: We know exactly where your oil came from
- Authentic flavor profile: Each harvest reflects our specific location
- Accountability: We stand behind every bottle
Many commercial olive oils blend oils from multiple countries and sources, which can result in inconsistent quality and flavor.
We harvest once per year, typically in October through November, when our olives reach peak ripeness. The exact timing depends on:
- Weather conditions
- Olive maturity
- Desired flavor profile
We monitor our trees closely and harvest at the precise moment when the olives offer the best balance of flavor, aroma, and health benefits.
Within hours—typically 2-4 hours from harvest to pressing. This is crucial because:
- Olives begin to oxidize immediately after picking
- Quick processing preserves flavor and aroma
- Fresh olives produce the highest quality oil
- Antioxidants remain intact
- Acidity stays low
Many commercial producers wait days or even weeks, which degrades quality significantly.
Cold-pressed means the olives are crushed and pressed at temperatures below 27°C (80°F). This matters because:
- Preserves flavor: Heat destroys delicate flavor compounds
- Retains nutrients: Vitamins and antioxidants stay intact
- Lower acidity: Heat can increase acidity
- No chemical extraction: Pure mechanical process only
Hot or chemical extraction might produce more oil, but it sacrifices quality—and we never compromise on quality.
